Borrowing Books When the Library is Closed
Books from the SmartLock lending machine can be picked up regardless of the library's opening hours, during the opening hours of the central building of BME. We fulfill requests during the following times:
- Requests received between December 25 and January 1 will be processed no earlier than January 2.
- Requests received between January 2 and January 5 until 17:30 will be fulfilled on the same day; requests submitted after 17:31 can be borrowed from the next day onwards..
We will send a notification email for the pick-up of requested books in every case.
Returning and Renewing Books
Books can be returned independently of the library's opening hours through the book drop boxes located in the central building of the University:
- at the main entrance of the K building
- opposite the Textbook Reading Room
The loan period for books can be extended either independently by logging into the online catalog or by requesting an extension via email at library@bme.hu.
| Attention! Changes in opening hours do not exempt users from complying with the rules specified in the Library Usage Regulations.
Services Available During the Closure
1. Literature Search
The library's electronic collections (Hungarian and international databases, e-journals, e-books) are accessible from outside the university premises. They can be accessed remotely via the university VPN or by using eduID. Databases subscribed by the university, along with links and brief descriptions, can be found on the Library's website under the Databases section.
You might wonder, 'Why not just use Google for this?'
Google is indeed useful when you need quick information. However, if you need to work with credible and reliable sources, we recommend using database searches.
To set up VPN, you can find the guide on the BMENET website.
If you have further questions or encounter any obstacles, feel free to contact our colleague at library@bme.hu.
2. Accessing Dissertations Online
In addition to primary literature for research and writing articles, doctoral dissertations are valuable sources. In the Budapest University of Technology and Economics Digital Archive (BME MDA), 2080 successfully defended doctoral dissertations are available and can be publicly accessed and studied.
Feel free to contact us with any indications or questions regarding our services using the provided contact information..
Information about changes in the service schedule of the Archives operating within the Budapest University of Technology and Economics Library (BME OMIKK) can be found on the BME Archives website.
